We finally moved to our home in Honeymoon Bay, on Cowichan Lake, on Vancouver Island. Our first week here was quite a welcome... Just as our internet was being installed, the winds picked up, the power went out, and our fence blew down. The power did not return for the next 50 hours! This was further complicated by the fact that we had not yet been successful in acquiring wood to burn. Our primary source of heat here is a wood-burning stove. It was a dark, chilly reception indeed, as the night-time temperatures have been below zero. |
Once the neighbours realized our situation; however, they were great. Darren brought us enough wood for one night, and then our neighbour, Dick, insisted that we take two wheelbarrow loads of dry wood and showed us where to help ourselves to more if we ever need it again. He also lent us a small generator (which we thankfully did not need to put to use) in case we needed it. |
Unfortunately, the work we had commissioned people to do while we were away was not done - the electrician broke his ribs, the contractor had computer problems and didn't receive our e-mails, and the handyman broke his shoulder! Rescheduling their services has been a priority and we have now got some of the jobs started. 10 of the 22 new light fixtures and ceiling fans have been installed and we're hoping to have the others done this coming weekend. |
