Once again, our friends Shaun & Debbie served as tour guides to the local sites, this time taking us all the way to Botanical Beach at Port Renfrew. Despite the extremely rainy day, we had a lot of fun. Vecsey loved exploring the rainforest trails in the mud and puddles. We saw Canada's "gnarliest tree" in Avatar Grove and a giant Sitka spruce along the way.
Lisa completed her short-term contract, and Shaun and I completed fencing our backyard. Vecsey can now be outside without needing her leash. Both Lisa and I served as bartenders for the annual Fish & Game dinner, which allowed us to meet some new people, raise money for the fire department, and try some new meat varieties. (We had mostly cougar, deer, and oysters.) I helped Shaun cut down our neighbour's tree, and we have begun work on our back deck. We also found a new tenant and sold our motorhome; both of which provided much relief.

It has been a mild winter in southern BC, and February in Honeymoon Bay featured many days of beautiful weather. We have greatly appreciated this fact and the ability to enjoy the wonderful outdoors. One afternoon, our friends, Shaun & Debbie, took us on a full loop tour of Cowichan Lake. The three hours spent visiting with friends while exploring a wonderful part of the world was exactly what we needed. Another day, we joined Shaun, Debbie, and John to try some target shooting. Thanks to them, I took the opportunity to shoot a .22, a 30-06, and a 12 gauge shotgun. I will never become a hunter, but 'killing' an old fire extinguisher and watching the 'death' of an old Ford airbag was pretty fun, and I'm glad we accepted the offer to learn something new. Still another afternoon, we did some more exploration of the lake with Shaun. This time our fun was under the guise of "rescue boat proficiency", as we took the fire rescue boat from HMB, to Mesachie Lake, then Lake Cowichan, on to Sandy Beach, through the narrows to Youbou, all the way to Gordon Bay Provincial Park, and then back home.
Lisa accepted a short-term, part-time contract that allows her to work from home. She volunteers at the local arena leading fitness classes designed primarily for seniors with chronic health issues. Lisa also continues to bear the brunt of the load when it comes to managing our rental properties. Recently these have not been producing enough "passive" income, as both the properties and the tenants have required attention. We did few renovations on our house this month, but have made a lot of progress with cleaning, tidying, unpacking, organizing, and decorating our home. We also mounted a new Samsung 58" television on the living room wall, so movie watching has been even more enjoyable. We visited friends in their home, and were able to reciprocate by hosting a UFC 184 night. We always seem to be busy, but we're trying to ensure that a larger portion of our time is spent enjoying ourselves... something we look forward to practising a lot.
