We had a wonderful time celebrating the Labour Day Weekend with relatives in Alberta. UFC242 was a great prelude to the excitement of watching Bianca Andreescu become the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title, and the first teenager to win a major in thirteen years. The NFL kicked off its 100th season. Though neither of my fantasy teams won their opening match, I thoroughly enjoyed Monday Night Football. We were pleased that Joan was able to come for a visit as it was wonderful to see her again. We visited the Kinsol Trestle and walked a portion of "The Great Trail". By mid-month we were certainly experiencing the transition to autumn, as the weather began to change. On two consecutive days, there were moments when our back deck was basked in warm sunshine, while rain poured down on our front lawn. Happily, summer went out with a flourish, and we enjoyed more time in the sunshine. We made yet another trip up Cobble Hill. After returning from our hike, the blue skies clouded over and thunder began. Next was a couple of minutes of huge hail stones violently pelting down. This quickly changed to smaller hail mixed with rain, which eventually became wind and rain. Shortly thereafter, the sun returned! Prior to month end, we were fortunate to have dinner at Shaun and Debbie's place and then to go out for lunch with Auntie Janet and June. We watched several more movies. We spent more time than usual on television series, enjoying all episodes of "Ozark", "Jack Ryan", and the 4-part mini-series, "Collateral". We also got caught up on "Shameless", watched the final episodes of "Suits", and the new ones of "This Is Us" and "Modern Family". We began "Counterpart" and "Love", but only lasted a single episode of "Godless". We continue to read novels as well.

We ate a quick picnic lunch at Dutch Lake Beach Park in Clearwater.
It was no surprise that Linda & Grant strictly enforce the "Lake Rules". The weather wasn't perfect while we were there, but the skies cleared enough for us to thoroughly enjoy our time on the boat. We explored Isle Lake and made a short trip to the Pembina River Provincial Park to hike along the river. It turned out that we had chosen a fun weekend to be at the camp, as two themed events had been planned. For the first time, Camp Koinonia celebrated Halloween together in August. There were at least 60 kids trick-or-treating, many adults in costumes, and a lot of great decorations. After the officially planned festivities, we swapped stories around the campfire while s'mores and memories were made. Unfortunately, we don't see Grant and Linda often, but we sure enjoy ourselves when we do. It was too bad that their boys couldn't make it out to the lake during our visit, but we were so happy to meet Deanna and Ashley again after 20 years! It was nice to see firsthand that the apple didn't fall far from the proverbial tree, and the girls are wonderful just like their parents. Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi!!! Prost! After an all too short "long" weekend filled with food & family, campfires & costumes, boating & beer, we inevitably had to say goodbye and make the journey back to the Lower Mainland. We took brief respite from driving with stops once again in Jasper and Dutch Lake.
Thanks again for your generosity, hospitality, and friendship, Angel, Grant, Linda, Deanna, and Ashley - much love to you all! |
