It was great to spend some of Canada Day with my buddy, Joe! We ran into Elliott & Diana while walking at Rocky Point then headed to St. James's Well for a lavender sour and more conversation. I was pleased to see that many people were proudly displaying their flags, even if this year's celebrations were subdued and diminished. I spent time enjoying Queen's Park and its surrounding neighbourhood. On July 2nd, we helped Auntie Janet celebrate her 86th birthday! Lisa and I walked in Central Park early enough to avoid the heat and for me to catch the 10 am ferry back to Vancouver Island. Certain plants, particularly our rose bushes, thrived in the July heat. Bomford Beach St. Ann's Church is currently closed due to political misgivings. Genoa Bay Stoney Hill Cherry Point Beach Bings Creek Cees & Miep Hof Memorial Park Bright Angel Park Lisa paid a visit to the Langley Wiebes and spent time with Annika. Whippletree Junction The Village of Cowichan Bay I even rose early enough to enjoy the sun rising over Salt Spring Island to shine on a new day in Cowichan Bay! On the 15th, we walked Nanaimo's seawall, spent some time in Maffeo Sutton Park, and had a picnic lunch at Fuller Lake. On the 17th, Debbie joined us for a hike up Mt. Tzouhalem before all three of us got our second doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccinations. Unfortunately, amid reports of newly discovered residential school grave sites and the growing backlash against the Catholic Church, someone has cut down The Cross from atop the mountain. We maintained our daily walks. Duncan Yummy Treats We were pleased that our neighbours, Stephanie and Phil, were able to join us for drinks and snacks on the deck the afternoon of the 20th. Cobble Hill Mountain We cycled 23 kilometres along the Cowichan Valley Trail portion of Canada's "Great Trail", the Trans-Canada Trail, from Glenora Trails Head Park over the Holt Creek Trestle to 66 Mile Trestle. It was hot throughout the entire month. We had a nice visit with long-time family friends, Rick & Evelyn Chang. Champions were crowned throughout July and I loved watching. I continued to watch the UFC and the Pat McAfee Show, as well as follow the Canucks' off-season dealings and the Canadian medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics. There were far more movies on offer in July. We watched an enjoyable combination of previous favourites and new television series. My monthly reading was a combination of fiction and self-help books.
