April was spent entirely in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are fortunate to have been able to continue to walk daily, but otherwise, we remained at home except for a couple of grocery runs. I continue to follow the same four podcasts as usual... I enjoyed watching the ACM compilation of remote performances by Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Lauren Alaina, Thomas Rhett, Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown & John Legend, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Tim McGraw, Old Dominion, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban. Being stuck at home doesn't mean there are no indulgences... By April 8th, temperatures had risen to 16 degrees. (The following day they reached 20 degrees.) We explored some of the lower trails on Cobble Hill and walked along the beach at Cherry Point. I also appreciated and enjoyed the CMT tribute special for Kenny Rogers that included Dolly Parton, Randy Houser, Lady Antebellum, Jennifer Nettles, and Vince Gill singing Kenny's songs. With warm, sunny weather, it's wonderful to spend time on the deck. Our second eggciting trip up Cobble Hill this month unexpectedly became an eggceptional Easter egg hunt. I completed a successful 52 season virtual career as the GM of the Blue Jays, winning 26 championships while never missing the playoffs! We continued to watch movies most evenings. We finally hiked up Old Baldy Mountain for the views overlooking Shawnigan Lake from the highly instagrammable swing. The online streaming of musical performances from home continued throughout April. I enjoyed "Wariner Wednesdays" with Steve Wariner and appreciated the "Bud Light Dive Bar Tour Home Edition" with Thomas Rhett, Morgan Wallen, and Brad Paisley raising funds for the Red Cross. "All Cooped Up" with Ashley McBride showcased her talents and the Heart Live with Ed Sheeran concert was entertaining. I also liked watching Jason Mraz's "lalalalivestream" and Jack Johnson's broadcast from his home in Hawaii. ET Canada created an entertaining series, "Canada Together: In Concert". I even received a shout-out from The Swon Brothers on one of their Tuesday night performances. There are plenty of signs of support throughout the community. We were disappointed that in our opinions, "Arrested Development" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" did not live up to the glowing recommendations, but were thrilled to have another full season of "Ozark" to binge watch. "Modern Family" concluded and we had to see what all the "Tiger King" hype was about. We hiked the short trail through Kingburne Park to the Koksilah River. Even with plenty of screen time, I still managed to find time to read. We walked every single day, particularly enjoying the many blossoms that this time of year offers. The NFL draft and ESPN's "The Last Dance" provided some much needed sports content during this strange time. We walked in the Cowichan River Estuary and the Cowichan Estuary. We found some unique ladybugs in Tom Bannister Park. I say that we were alone the entire month, but as long as it is "we", then I was not alone. I am so grateful that Lisa and I are "alone" together.
