Lisa and I spent much of the month feeling under the weather - both figuratively and literally. We fought a lingering malady with plenty of tea, throat lozenges, and vitamin C. The Fall weather turned nasty as the rains and winds arrived in earnest. We suffered four power outages in an eight day span for a total of 24 hours without electricity. A rental property developed a leak and will obviously cost us further money and inconvenience. After finally recovering from whatever was ailing me, I developed a 24 hour flu. Despite all of that, we spent lots of enjoyable time together and continued to prepare for our next big trip. The woodstove is back in full use as we spend much of our time monitoring the weather for breaks to go walking and hiking. |
I squeezed in a little deck time while the sun was shining, but then needed to store the deck furniture and barbecue for the remainder of autumn and the approaching winter season. I now do most of my reading in front of the woodstove. Lisa has still managed to fit in some lengthy weekend bike rides and devoted far more time this month to her volunteer duties as the unit facilitator for the St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog Cowichan Valley Division. |
We continue to watch movies and read novels. I have greatly enjoyed reading travel guides in anticipation of our next holiday. We have also enjoyed the return of some of our favourite television programs after their summer hiatus. I finally have Lisa watching "Survivor" and October is always a great month for sports. The NFL, NBA and NHL seasons all began. Additionally, the Jays' postseason run and the Canucks' unexpected hot start provided much appreciated indoor entertainment in between hiking opportunities. |
