Lisa and I kicked the month off with an overnight getaway to Parksville. Our first stop was Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. We felt compelled to make an unexpected stop along the way... Although a drizzly day, the views overlooking the beach from our room at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort in Parksville were still excellent. The following morning was gorgeous for a Rathtrevor Beach walk before Lisa headed off to breakfast and the conference she was attending. While Lisa was at the event, I read and went for another beach walk. SuperBowl 53 was a boring disappointment, including the halftime show. February 4th was Chinese NYE and marked the first snowfall of the season and at our new home. Four days later we had much more snow ( a lot by our standards). When the middleweight champion had to pull out of UFC 234, it left only one compelling fight on the card. Mark came over to watch "The Last Stylebender" defeat the aging legend, "Spider". The evening of the 10th brought almost an additional foot of snow in round #3. At one point, it was snowing much more quickly than I could even clear the car, much less shovel the driveway! We got caught up on all of our favourite television series, and watched five new ones as well. Snowfall round number four came in two parts, as it snowed again on the evening of the 11th, took a break, and then resumed on the morning of the 12th. I lost track of how many times we shoveled the driveway, etc. I continue to watch many movies - another 24 of them so far this month. Just when we dared to believe that the snowfall was over, Valentine's Day brought us round five. I spent much of "Love of Reading Month" devouring library books. February 17th's main event lasted all of 26 seconds. On Family Day, I reflected upon the nature of family ties and celebrated my family members - both those related through birth, and those who have become family through love. All of the winter weather had us dreaming of warmer locales, so when we realized that my cousin, Bronwyn, and her family would soon be moving away from Hawaii, it was an easy decision to book our flights. While on our way to Burnaby, it snowed again! I ended up shovelling June's driveway, including creating a space to park our car. One of the perks of visiting the Lower Mainland before and after our trips is going for meals with Auntie Janet and June. It is snowing AGAIN!!! We are definitely ready to enjoy the Hawaiian sunshine and share some fun experiences with relatives we don't see often enough.
