We continued to walk... in good weather and bad (cold!), but even we missed a few days during the snow. We walked Cobble Hill Mountain (twice), Cowichan Bay Estuary, the village (seeing the Maritime Centre's annual themed Christmas trees), and all around. By our West Coast standards, we received a lot of snow (15 inches total?). We enjoyed tasty meals, snacks, and drinks while spending the holiday season at home this year. As far as the sporting world is concerned, the month's definite highlight was Argentina earning its third star in dramatic fashion, defeating the defending champions in a shoot-out, while Messi set records and added to his list of accomplishments and accolades. Unfortunately, before the year was done, the world lost last century's "Athlete of the Century", Edson Arantes do Nascimento. I shed tears at the passing of another childhood hero, but find comfort in knowing that his legacy and influence live on. Since legends never die, Pele is eternal. The Canucks and Warriors remained inconsistent, continually flirting with .500 records. The NFL's race for the playoffs has heated up. The World Junior hockey tournament began the last week of the year, and quickly became the Connor Bedard show. During this cold December, we watched multiple shows per day. We watched varied television programs, continuing our "Yellowstone" journey and becoming hooked on "Peaky Blinders". I had trouble sticking to my reading routine in December, so I once again read just three books, despite being cooped up at home all month. As 2022 comes to a close, we reflect upon a year that featured four great vacations and several valued visits with friends. Thank you to everyone who made the year enjoyable. Cheers to 2022!
