We rang in the new year with lots of hugs with new friends. It was great showing Shelley around our new community. Lisa and I found a decorated tree while exploring the Cobble Hill Mountain Recreation Area. UFC Fight Night provided more entertainment, especially when Cejudo surprisingly won by TKO just 32 seconds into the very first round! The NFL playoffs were entertaining as usual and the four best teams all made it to the conference finals. For the first time in NFL history, two playoff games went to overtime in the same day (the conference finals no less!). Unfortunately, poor officiating helped determine the outcome of the NFC championship, but I'll be cheering for the Rams to defeat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. We continue to enjoy walks in our area, especially when the sun shines. I had a very happy birthday. I gladly accept any dinner meeting leftovers Lisa can bring me! In these two instances, I enjoyed a meal of roast chicken, salmon, roasted potatoes, and veggies, and a second meal of butter chicken. This month I watched another 36 movies. I read nine books in January. I finally managed to find cheap enough prices for good flight combinations to book and plan two vacations that I'd been hoping would come to fruition. I am delighted that we will be attending the ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy held at the Juno Beach Centre. We will begin our trip in Amsterdam (we've never been to Holland), and eventually fly home from Paris. The other trip I booked is for next December. We will fly to Dubai to board the MSC Lirica for an 11 night cruise to 4 Middle Eastern nations. We gratefully accepted free tickets to end the month by attending opening night of a musical production at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan.
