We were saddened and alarmed to discover a major leak, with water pouring into the crawlspace. It turns out that the former owners lied to us when questioned about moisture in the crawlspace following an inspection that Shaun conducted. They assured us that the damp spot was a result of them having recently moved wet patio furniture cushions into the crawlspace. This seemed plausible and reasonable. I checked the crawlspace again some time before our possession and it was dry. Weeks after having moved in, I made yet another trip into the crawlspace to stash away moving boxes and discovered a puddle. |
The other stumbling block has been the state of the carpet. It was professionally cleaned on the day of possession and it seemed to have turned out well. Several weeks later, stains began to re-emerge and the smell of cat urine intensified. We have used deodorizer and more Febreze in the last month than in our entire lives. Although it is much improved, we've decided that it will never be perfect, and we will always be aware of the damage, so we plan to have it replaced in the near future. On a possibly related topic, we've learned that the despicable previous owners simply left their cat behind when they moved; it now roams the neighbourhood.
