July began with a wonderful Canada Day hosting John & Inga, and ended with Sunfest Country Music Festival. The summer heat has meant more time at the lake and on the deck. Vecsey and her fur coat require plenty of dips in the refreshing water. I spent many afternoons lounging on my hammock with a book and a beverage. Deck time and sunshine also means it's grilling season and we've been enjoying our barbeques. We've picked lots of plums and blackberries, but are still waiting for the peaches to fully ripen. Unfortunately, the weather has also resulted in forest fires around the province, and twice they were close enough to cause us haze and smoke. The Mars water bomber was put back to work at Cowichan Lake, as were the helicopters. We were happy to spend time with friends, including tubing with Shaun & Debbie, and a nice lunch visit from Judy and her lovely daughters. Shaun even let me drive his new CanAm quad! Lisa and I hiked Mesachie Mountain and did some kayaking. Lisa continues to cycle longer distances, more often and I had the chance to play some basketball. This month we watched several movies and many episodes of "Suits", "Hannibal", "Archer", "Inside Amy Schumer", and "Ballers".

We celebrated Canada Day with Lisa's dad and Inga who were still staying with us. First we went out for breakfast and briefly looked around Lake Cowichan. Next we went to the floating boardwalk, before heading to the Honeymoon Bay Community Hall for a ceremony and some cake. It was very hot, so we stayed indoors for awhile and watched "Danny Collins". Our neighbours' grandkids came by with some homemade cupcakes and stayed for a short visit. Next, we visited Bear Lake and got some more cake at the Mesachie Lake festivities. Finally, Shaun & Debbie joined us for a barbeque and an evening visit on the deck. What a great day spent celebrating and appreciating our wonderful nation!
