We couldn't have asked for better weather in October, allowing us to continue to enjoy our outdoor activities, including playing tennis. Since mid-September there have been spiderwebs everywhere. (I stole these images from "Picture Perfect Vancouver Island" as I failed miserably to capture them, despite walking right into several.) We hiked Cobble Hill Mountain and continued to visit the beach. We paid a visit to the Cowichan Bay Estuary in early October. The combination of good weather and no plans allowed us to complete several chores in early October. Lisa washed the car and the windows, while I cleaned out our gutters, cleared wasp nests, and removed moss from our roof. We also finished all pruning aside from the banana palm. After two very rainy days, the skies cleared for a brilliant Thanksgiving. We checked out the first sea lions to have returned to our bay. In addition to our usual enjoyable meals, Lisa cooked roast for Thanksgiving and baked banana loaf with coconut. We continued our daily walking routine, appreciating that seasonal decor kept it from becoming routine. The sea lions continued to arrive in Cowichan Bay. We made a second trip to the estuary later in the month. October was another excellent month for sports fans. Rafael Nadal won his 13th French Open and tied Federer's mark of 20 Grand Slam wins. Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association crowned their champions, and it was a good year for Los Angeles! Every Saturday the UFC provided great bouts. Khabib unexpectedly retired as the undefeated champion (29-0). I continue to watch a lot of NFL football, too. As temperatures cooled, we spent less time on the deck and in the yard. We appreciated finding a new set of painted rocks along a local trail. Lisa has continued to volunteer for LifeLine. An appreciative senior thanked her with a bouquet from her garden. We hiked up Cobble Hill Mountain again before the end of October. When we awoke to more sunshine than forecast for Lisa's birthday, we decided to finally explore some of East Sooke Regional Park. I hope that Lisa felt special on her birthday. We ended up returning to the estuary for a third time in October. We gave chocolate to the few neighbour kids who we know, but otherwise decided not to participate in Halloween this year. Many people throughout the community did celebrate, though. We watched twenty more movies. We read several enjoyable novels. We were pleased that two of our TV programs finally released new episodes and I enjoyed a couple of online musical events. We continue to look for the rainbow even on the cloudy days.
