Kris LaRose photographed some magnificent Cowichan Bay sunrises.
Andrew Yancoff captured the above image of Cowichan Bay coated in white snow. Lisa and I shovelled far more of the stuff than we'd prefer. We only missed a few days of walking due to the poor conditions; otherwise, we continued to walk within our community and local parks. Most days, we were continually monitoring for a break in the weather that would provide our best opportunity to walk in decent conditions. At some point, we'd decide that "this may be the best it's going to be." This parallels our constant wait for favourable travel conditions. With the quick spread of Omicron, restrictions and situations continue to change daily. After nearly two years of waiting, we decided that "this may be the best it's going to be", so we've booked an inexpensive trip to Mazatlan, Mexico to dip our toes back into the travel waters in early February. We made two trips to Cobble Hill Mountain, once exploring the lower trails in slippery conditions, and then summiting later in the month. We made a trip up Mt. Tzouhalem in spooky, foggy conditions. We enjoyed good food at home as usual. I watched a lot of Canucks' hockey, Warriors' basketball, and NFL football. UFC 270 featured two big title fights, and the Canadian men's soccer team remained undefeated in World Cup qualifying. We ended the month by exploring three parks and their walking paths on either side of Greater Victoria's Gorge. Movies continue to provide entertainment and distraction. We enjoyed a lot of TV programming as favourites returned with new episodes, new seasons, and new spin-offs. We also binge watched all of "Succession" and Fluffy's catalogue. I continue to read a variety of books. Canadians formed a "Freedom Convoy" originally meant to protest the Federal government's vaccine mandate for truckers. The event, and the movement, soon grew to include a much more general call for the removal of more Covid restrictions. After two years of protocols, we are weary and wary. At this point, we consider the government's restrictions more daunting and meddlesome than the new variants. Hopefully we are on the verge of a new dawn...
