August was yet another month without international travel. We continued to appreciate the beauty of our part of the world, though. Cees & Miep Hof Memorial Park We made five trips up Cobble Hill Mountain in August! Our yard was in bloom, but often too hot to fully enjoy. Despite spending too much time watching the amazing hummingbirds that frequent our yard and love our honeysuckle, I failed to capture a good image so instead stole one from an internet search. We still walked everyday. We enjoyed a mini-getaway to Pender and Mayne Islands to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. I created a separate blog post of all the photos and details. We eat well at home. We could hear live country music throughout our fifth trip up Cobble Hill, so we followed the sound and discovered a car show and band. We only saw the Wiebes in photographs. June visited us for the final two nights of August. We watched five new TV series and each new episode of "Ted Lasso". We watched several more movies. Canadian athletes performing well at the postponed 2020 summer Olympics provided two weeks of great entertainment and historic accomplishments. The CFL also made a long awaited return after having canceled the entire 2020 season. I read ten books this month!

Despite being "fully vaccinated", travel options are still very limited. This has been a more challenging year than previous ones, so celebrating our anniversary was more important than ever. We planned an overnight getaway to Pender and Mayne Islands. We checked out the Shingle Bay Campground. We hiked to and around Roe Lake. Our next stop was Port Browning Harbour, where we walked the beach, checked out the marina resort, and found a picnic table to enjoy our packed lasagna lunch. Relaxing Medicine Beach was our next stop. Several others took the plunge in Magic Lake at Swimming Hole Park. Our favourite hike of the trip was to the viewpoints in Oak Bluffs Park. The most famous hike on Pender is to the top of Mount Norman. After all of that hiking, it was nice to relax with a drink and a snack at Mortimer Spit Park. Our walk around the Enchanted Forest Nature Park didn't take long. We ran out of island (and energy) when we made it to Gowland Point. Having completed the day's itinerary, we checked in at WOODS on Pender. Getting out of our shoes and enjoying Nespresso were the top priorities. We enjoyed a relaxing evening listening to music. We rose before the sun on our 26th wedding anniversary since the ferry to Village Bay leaves at 7:15. We only took our bikes to Mayne and headed towards Dinner Bay Park. The small Japanese Garden there was our first planned destination. Next, we sought out small Piggot Bay. We cycled to Campbell Point between Bennett Bay and Campbell Bay. By the time we made it to Miner's Bay, I'd earned a beer and snack. We were impressed by how nice it is by the Sidney pier. To complete our anniversary celebration, we joined our friend for drinks on her patio. Michelle treated us to cake and ice cream.
