After visiting as many people as possible in a short time in the Lower Mainland, we flew south to Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos Islands. We rented a car for our first 24 hours on the island. Our first stop was for some local fried chicken from "Sweet T's". Then we transported our luggage to our airbnb accommodation before heading to Long Bay Beach to see some kite surfing. We picked up groceries before settling in at the townhouse and visiting with our "hosts" for the week. The next morning we used the car to explore the island, heading first to Chalk Sound National Park and then to find Taylor Bay Beach. After seeing Taylor Bay, it was a short drive to Sappodilla Bay Beach. Fried fish, macaroni, & plantains + grilled fish, corn, & more plantains. The following morning we walked all of Grace Bay Beach to the centre of Leeward Beach before walking back to the centre of the tourist area for lunch at "Turks Kebab" and some grocery store Oreo cheesecake for Lisa. We spent a little more time by the pool before having chicken pot pie for dinner and heading back to the beach for another sunset walk. The next day we decided to walk all the way to Turtle Cove despite the overcast, rainy weather. I snorkelled at Smith's Reef before walking the entire way back along the coast, including The Bight Beach stretch. The following day was also overcast and rainy. We became fans of "Parks and Recreation" as we spent most of the day indoors. We spent a short time by the pool but the patio furniture was wet. We explored the tiny tourist district of Grace Bay and had fish sandwiches at "Mr. Grouper's". We woke up to another rainy morning! This made for a lazy day until the sun finally won the battle with the clouds in the late afternoon. This time I snorkelled at "Coral Gardens" where I saw a spotted ray. We walked along beautiful Grace Bay Beach before heading to the Pavilion Restaurant at the Somerset. We covered all of the bases by ordering fish & chips, a beef taco, a chicken taco, and a shrimp taco. We also sampled steak kebobs, roasted red pepper hummus on crackers, vegetable rolls, and curried deviled eggs. Then we watched another stunning sunset. Guess where we headed today... the beach! There is a twist, though; this time we BOTH went in the water. We once again walked the entire length of Grace Bay Beach to Leeward Beach, and back again. We sat under a beach umbrella and watched the paragliders during the day and one last sunset over Grace Bay in the evening.
