Lisa and I did well at the Honeymoon Bay Fire Rescue Christmas Party. One of the gifts we contributed to the Secret Santa Gift Exchange activity became the most stolen item in department history - I knew the boys would love the one yard beer "bong"! At the end of the event, we wound up with Bacardi White Rum and a Tim's card - not bad at all! The potluck dinner was delicious and the company was great. In the past month I have responded to three "live" fire rescue call-outs. The first had me riding around the lake in the middle of a winter storm, at night, searching for someone who was reported to have been seen waving from a boat. The call was recorded as a "possible hypothermia" situation, so we claim the three of us in the fire department's boat were the ones at risk of suffering hypothermia. The other two calls were both in response to seizures. I was able to flag the ambulance and direct traffic as well as complete paperwork and relay messages. Our renovations continue... They continue to be stressful, expensive, and tiring! Several times we have found ourselves yelling and upset. It had already been a trying process, and then our flooring installer threatened us! This is a crazy situation as he absolutely lost his mind and we felt it necessary and prudent to involve the RCMP. Despite all of this, we now have new, functioning Toto toilets, no leaking plumbing, tiled washrooms, great looking handscraped "Gunstock Hickory" throughout the rest of the house, and four new electric baseboard heaters. We got rid of all of the old metal and appliances, all of the garbage scraps, and most of the old carpet. We returned to the mainland for one week over Christmas and managed to accomplish a lot and see many friends and relatives. We enjoyed a wonderful early Christmas feast at June's on the 23rd. Dinner included roast lamb, pork ribs, chicken stir-fry, bacon-wrapped scallops, Shanghai-style fat noodles, roast potatoes, and craft beer. We had a lot of fun visiting with Auntie Janet, Elliott & Diana, and Lauren & Derek. On the 25th, we had a traditional turkey dinner at my parents' with Alison & Katrina, Johnny, Jeff, and Adrianne. John hosted us for lunch on the 26th, before we headed to the Gates' home to visit our friend Karyn. Afterwards, we attended a lovely dinner party in Kits at Rob & Barb's home. What a great Boxing Day! On the 27th we were finally able to visit our friends George & Joan before we headed back home on the early morning ferry on the 28th. As usual, our New Year's "party for two" became a solo mission when Lisa fell asleep around ten. I watched "22 Jump Street" and "Think Like a Man, Too" while indulging in some food and beverages. We wish all of our friends and family health and happiness in 2015.
