We are now staying in the "Old City" portion of Antalya. After enjoying the breakfast buffet, we briefly walked this quaint part of the city before joining our tour. At the end of the scheduled tour, Lisa and I more thoroughly explored the area and spent time strolling through the parks. The landmarks include: Hadrian's Gate, Hidirlik Tower, and the Broken Minaret. |
The first official stop of the day was Perge, most famous during the time of Alexander the Great (334BC). The ruins here include: a central water canal system, a lovely fountain, gateways from multiple eras (and occupants), arches, an agora that clearly includes a butcher shop, a hippodrome (chariot race track), and an arena/coliseum. |
The next stop was Side, most famous for its Temple of Apollo. The highlight for me, however, was the abundance of Turkish Delight samples - I hadn't realized the variety available, nor the tastiness possible! (My two favourites are the walnut in molasses and the pomegranate.) For lunch we had chicken and beef skewers with a tasty buffet next to a river. |
