Portland was a disappointment and a surprise. I'd anticipated a nicer city than we found. We also could not help but notice that Portland has a homeless epidemic. We quickly saw the city's highlights: Tom McCall Riverfront Park, Old Town, the Saturday morning market, Chinatown, Voodoo Doughnut, Powell's Books, etc. Then we headed due North up the I-5, through heavy traffic and poor weather throughout the Greater Seattle area. Just when we began to think we'd basically made it home without further RV problems, the wind struck again. This time, as Lisa got out of the vehicle, a huge gust of wind forced the door open beyond its natural limit, breaking a hinge and damaging the door itself. We managed to close the door and lock it, but have not yet addressed actually repairing it. This was the final straw and I drove the remainder of the day's 573 kilometres in an emotionally broken zombie-like trance. We spent a blustery night in Mount Vernon. |
