We drove to Crater Lake National Park only to be told that visibility today was at 0%, therefore not only was the lake not visible, but the entire Rim Drive was closed. This meant we had a longer drive around, AND we didn't get to see Crater Lake. We drove to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area next, where we got to explore not only the sand dunes, but the beach as well. As usual, Vecsey was the only one up for a dip. She loves the cooler weather and every opportunity to swim. From there, we headed to Eugene, completing 523 kilometres of driving only to discover that overnight RV parking had been banned at Walmart. Because we own a 1981 model motorhome, we were able to blend in for the night by parking on the street right next to Walmart with the (semi)permanent resident (semi)homeless who live in their old rigs. |

Love all of your nice pictures and the diary of your trip , we have really been enjoying following along. Lots of different kinds of scenery in California , we enjoyed the huge trees and windy roads as well as the beautiful coast . It is disappointing when you hope to see something as lovely as Crater Lake or the coast when the visibility is poor . We haven't visited Portland in a few years, sorry to hear what it is like now, it used to be very clean and a lovely city.. Hope the rest of the way is great.

How was your trip, Auntie Florence? I waved "hello" to Uncle Joe yesterday as he was mowing the lawn. Unfortunately we were already running about two hours late, so we didn't stop to chat.

We had a lovely trip ,enjoyed seeing the rest of Route 66 which is really only interesting to certain people ! Elderly or nostalgic types perhaps ! LOL You are so right about how we form our opinions but places change and our experiences when we visit them are all totally different , What a dull life it would be if we all loved the same places. .Uncle Joe said to say " Hi" , he thought it was you but didn't realize you were home yet.
