Myrtle Beach is much more commercialized and tacky than I'd expected, featuring all of the kitsch of the Jersey Shore, and more. We spent a rainy morning on the nearly deserted beaches in and south of Myrtle Beach; I think Vecsey actually prefers this weather. Once one gets away from the centre of town with its metered parking and cheesy boardwalk activities, the coastline and beaches are beautiful (even in the rain). We drove 192 kilometres today, most of them southbound between Myrtle Beach and Charleston. |
The historic city of Charleston is absolutely lovely. We had no problems finding accessible free parking throughout the easily navigable charming city. We visited the downtown, "Museum Mile", and The Battery before heading further south to the Oak Plantation RV Campground where we will spend the night. |
