We explored Santa Fe's downtown in the morning, including The Palace of the Governors, the St. Francis Cathedral, and the Plaza. We walked around Albuquerque's "Old Town" in the afternoon. We enjoyed the southwest artwork and the Mexican flair. We are now headed East towards Amarillo, Texas, but decided to call it a day in Tucumcari when the storms picked up once again and we'd traveled 398 kilometres. |

We aren't deliberately following any portion of Route 66, but our path coincides with it in several locations. What will you be traveling in this time around?

Michael I think it is mostly old timers that follow Route 66 out of nostalgia mostly ! There are many miles od nothing much but we have enjoyed it .Texas is another varied and scenic state., we particularly enjoyed Galveston with the houses on stilts and the old town, San Antonio with the River Walk and the Alamo , Austin and we visited the ranch that they showcased on the Dallas TV series in Dallas. Most of our USA holidays have been by car or van so we will be travelling in the Ford Escape. We have seen a lot of Alaska, the Yukon and North West Territories with a trailer and a trip across Canada when Debbie and Joey were in their teens with our first trailer and enjoyed both modes of transportation now that we are older we no longer have a trailer. We will definitely stay tuned even when we are on Route 66 ! LOL

It would certainly be cheaper on gas and much quicker to be driving a car! The RV does have advantages, though, and it's certainly been good for the dog.

Yes it really is much cheaper on gas and quicker but then there is the hotel or motel bill and eating in restaurants that add to the overall cost as well. It is nice having your own bed and being able to have more home cooked meals too so it is kind of nice to be able to have the choice for each vacation. I am sure you will have saved the price of the motorhome in no time so it was well worth it. I am sure the dog is enjoying every minute of the trip so that makes it worth while too. I think you have planned well .
