Despite being at the ferry terminal prior to 10 am, we had to wait until the 12:15 sailing to return to the Lower Mainland. Besides playing tennis again and continuing to read my novel, I'm not sure where the time went. I do know that for the second time, I forgot an appointment to have Lisa's windshield repaired - oops!

Balance is important. Today we tried to find a balance between work and play, between preparing for the future and enjoying today. We continued to prepare for our extended holiday and for our pending renovations, but we also read our novels, played tennis, and walked to the beach (although it felt wrong without Vecsey). We spent some quality time cuddling together as a family while listening to country love songs.
Despite being on the island, the errands and preparations remained much the same. We made yet another trip to Home Depot and visited a Duncan flooring store. We hired an electrician and met with a contractor. I mowed the lawn and we packed items for our RV holiday. We visited the Honeymoon Bay Public Market and did grocery shopping. We did at least still find time to read.
Vecsey re-injured her leg early this morning, so much of the day was spent cuddling and comforting my little buddy. We then traveled to Honeymoon Bay with the truck loaded full of lights, fans, and toilets.
Today's highlight was honouring one of my students in the way I feel she has earned. Due to the lockout and subsequent strike action, not only did students not experience 'grad', but no awards were given. I truly felt that one student of mine in particular deserved to be recognized for an outstanding year, so I had a trophy made and arranged with her mother to meet for a surprise dinner. I was able to present her with my very own "Award of Merit" in front of her parents, her sister, and Lisa. Congratulations, Mariantonella! Even though it was an unofficial act, presenting this well deserved award seems like the perfect way to conclude my career.
I'm not sure how an entire day flies by so quickly. Today's highlight was sitting in June's garden watching a pair of hummingbirds rocket around - they are amazing!
Vecsey has only been going on short walks as her leg is still on the mend. I ran more errands and purchased more lights today. I also watched two more films. Usually I prefer a fantastic cup of coffee brewed in our very own Bialetti, but occasionally, the purchase of a coffee is an avenue to something much greater. The highlight of my day was chatting with my wonderful friend, Michelle. We have established a semi-regular routine of meeting at a coffee shop for our visits, and I always leave happier than when I arrived.
After purchasing still more light fixtures and having my truck diagnosed, I spent far too much time on Facebook and watched two good movies. The bulk of my day was spent using my laptop. Yes, it was beautiful weather outside, so Lisa and I did begin the day by playing tennis, but it is amazing how much time can be spent doing such a vast array of activities on the computer. I continued to research products and options for our home renovations. We checked inventory and shopped online. I continued to develop my fantasy hockey team on an online game. I watched three completely different movies online today. I made social plans with friends and booked appointments with tradesmen. I employed e-mail in personal and professional pursuits. We conducted banking on-line. After all of that, I chose to read from an old-fashioned paperback novel rather than my e-reader... then I updated this blog.
Today was a great day! As I'd hoped and predicted, Germany won its fourth World Cup championship and we were able to cheer them on with our good friends the Grahams. The Guinness Black Lager and Canadian Club accompanied by homemade chili, baked potatoes, barbeque ribs, garlic bread, and salad were fantastic bonuses.
As usual, we managed to squeeze in some errands. This time we purchased three toilets, four flushmount ceiling lights, two wallmounted sconce lights, and two garden hoses. The sun shone brightly all day. We took the RV to Crystal Autoglass to have several chips in the windshield repaired. Lisa cleaned much of the interior spaces and proved that she is a puzzle savant through her intricate packing ways.
No dog walking today as Vecsey is still very stiff and continues to limp. The Netherlands defeated Brazil to place 3rd in the World Cup. I had my first swim of the season and then we went out for dinner to celebrate my mom's 67th birthday (and my niece's 4th which was yesterday). Lisa and I split two different schnitzels, one pork with jalapeno & cream cheese poppers, the other, chicken with crab & shrimp. Afterwards we had toffee coffee cake with coconut ice cream with white brownies. |
